Flora Hurteau : Listening To The Lake

It Just Keeps Snowing – and we are having record attendances on Wednesday mornings, over 50 last week and lots of most welcome new faces.

As usual, we do not meet next week, February 18th being school vacation week. That is also one of the Bash Badge black-out weeks.

A very warm welcome for this week’s speaker, club member Flora Hurteau. Flora took up kayaking in 2012. Her husband’s final gift to her of detailed Lake Champlain charts inspired the retired public school educator to circumnavigate every island on the lake, “turning my personal loss into a meaningful journey,” she said. “This adventure is both a tribute to his encouragement for my project, and a celebration of curiosity, resilience, and lifelong learning.” Gather in Bootleggers’ Lounge at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11, with your lunch. Flora will begin speaking at 1:30. All ages are welcome. Free for members. A requested donation of $5 for guests.

I am looking for your stories of derring-do and mischief mismanaged for this year’s Ski Trip Awards at the end-of-year banquet on March 25. Don’t be shy—requests for anonymity will always be honored. Maybe.
