And That’s a Wrap.

I’ll be taking a few weeks off to let the weather sort out what it wants to do before we get the summer activities underway.

Nearly seventy of us turned out for the end-of-season banquet, a fitting close to a landmark winter. Aside from the recent thaw, we’ve had continuous snow cover since late November, with plenty still on the ground—there’s good skiing to be had yet.

  • A dozen local businesses donated raffle prizes, and members matched them with another dozen. I’ll add a full list to the club website in due course.
  • Joanne Perry, Allen Goldman, Mike Jurnak, and TJ Holloway kindly submitted to the gentle ribbing that accompanies the ski-tip awards—complete with tales of broken bones, unfortunate meetings with trees, deep snowdrift immersions, and even a nap on the Sterling lift.
  • Susan Larson, Mike Oulette, and TJ Holloway received the inaugural alpine skiing medals for sheer persistence in getting out the door. A dozen skiers submitted their season data, totaling more than 3,600,000 vertical feet across 547 ski days at 18 different mountains. More detail to follow.

There is selection of the banquet photos from the Facebook page below.

In the coming weeks, the advisory board will meet to review the season, plan the summer, and look over the finances. If there’s anything you’d like us to address, let any of us know.

Over the summer, we expect to continue the usual walks, rides, and paddles, with a few more demanding hikes added to the mix.

New this year, we’re planning a day of bench-rest rifle shooting in early June. That should complement the usual lineup: A Day at the Lake, the picnic at Niquette State Park, Strawberries With a View, pre-season conditioning, and possibly a few additions.
